An introduction

I don't wish to seem immodest but to give you the confidence that having your tubal ligation reversal performed by me is your wisest choice, I need to tell you a bit about myself.

Dr WoolcottMy training and qualifications are in reproductive microsurgery and reproductive medicine. I am very fortunate to be one of an exceptionally limited number of fully qualified reproductive microsurgeons operating in Australia.

I hold an honours degree in medicine and surgery from the University of New South Wales. I am a Royal Australian College certified super-specialist in reproductive microsurgery and infertility (a specialists’ specialist). I actively participate in research programs and have published numerous articles in medical journals and maintain an ongoing interest in promoting education and training of other medical practitioners.

Previously, I have been awarded both the Chris Hudson Fellowship and the Brown Craig Travelling Fellowship, which enabled furthering of my training and experience at Yale University. In 2007 I took sabbatical leave to further my studies at Harvard University.

With membership of the Fertility Society of Australia, the American Society for Reproductive Medicine and the European Society for Human Reproduction and Embryology I believe I am well equipped to provide you with advice and assistance to help you make the best decision and obtain the optimal outcome in the reversal of your tubal ligation.

Qualifications and training are essential

It is very much in your best interests to ensure that the doctor who performs your tubal ligation reversal is appropriately qualified and trained. Beware of claims of doctors ‘specialising’ in tubal ligation reversal – this does not mean that they are qualified specialists and certainly does not ensure that they are fully trained reproductive microsurgeons.

Beyond qualifications, experience is essential. Your chosen surgeon should be performing microsurgical tubal ligation reversal at least several times per week in order to maintain the high level of technical expertise to do so in a manner that maximises the chance of success.

Needless to say, I fulfil each of these criteria.

  • I am a specialist doctor who has undertaken a super-specialty training program in reproductive microsurgery and reproductive medicine;
  • In addition I have undertaken specific training in both Australia and the USA to refine skills in microsurgical tubal ligation reversal;
  • Finally and most importantly, I perform hundreds of reversal procedures each and every year.
